detection principles
salicylic acid spectrophotometry: in the presence of an alkaline medium and a catalyst, ammonia and ammonium ions in water react with salicylate to form a colored compound. the absorbance of this substance is proportional to the ammonia nitrogen content. the absorbance is measured at a specific wavelength.
nessler's reagent spectrophotometry: ammonia nitrogen, existing in the form of free ammonia or ammonium ions, reacts with nessler's reagent to produce a colored compound. the absorbance of this substance is proportional to the ammonia nitrogen content. the absorbance is measured at a specific wavelength.
